Why Music is Becoming a Big Part of Online Dating

Online dating apps are catching on to the idea that music can make you a better match. For example, the dating app Bumble is letting users send their matches bespoke mixtapes based on their tastes. According to a survey by Bumble, 59% of respondents believed that listening to music could increase the chances of meeting someone special. Furthermore, according to an OkCupid survey, 5 million people on the dating site have mentioned music on their profiles. The survey also found that 37% of daters prefer to date with someone based on their taste in music. In addition, the new dating app POM claims to match users based on their listening history.

Turn Up

A new dating app has been developed which relies on mutual musical tastes. It’s called Power of Music and launched in August. It works by letting users connect to their preferred music streaming service like Apple Music or Spotify. Then, their playlists are fed through an algorithm to determine whether they are compatible with a person. Other music streaming services are not supported.

For those who are not interested in dating musicians, there are other popular dating apps that cater to the musical community. For example, Power of Music lets you match with single musicians who also have accounts with music streaming services. Another popular dating app is Elite Singles. It is similar to Tinder, but it links with your music accounts. Dating as a musician can be a bit tricky due to time management, but online dating apps such as this can make the process easier.
